The Late HON. ROGER CLARKE was an exceptional Jamaican, who will be remembered as a man completely dedicated to public service, agricultural expansion, food security and integrated rural development. He was a defender of the powerless, a hard working and committed parliamentarian, stalwart and of course an agricultural hero and a champion farmer. In his passing, we have lost a true veteran leader who worked for the greater good of those he served, the farmers and the people of Jamaica Land We Love. Ever a jovial spirit, Roger Clarke was also known for speaking his mind. He was a giant for justice and fairness and a unifier.
On behalf of the Board of Management of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), the 220,000 farmers, the Jamaica 4-H Clubs and the 87,000 clubbites and 5,000 volunteers, we salute the work of the longest serving Minister of Agriculture.
We celebrate the work of someone who was an exceptional Jamaican and who will be remembered as a man completely dedicated to public service, agricultural expansion and integrated rural development. He has influenced our lives greatly through his committed leadership. He was a friend of the farmers who championed their cause, ‘a Champion Farmer of champion farmers’.
He achieved more than could be expected of any man and today he has gone home and we’ve lost one of th most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this Earth. He was also a man of great humour.
With his passing, there will be an immense void not only in his family’s lives, but also in those of all Jamaican, especially our farmers and the wider agricultural sector.
The sector has lost a tremendous leader and a great worker. The JAS and the over 220,000 farmers are profoundly saddened and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Mrs. Sonia Clarke, children, constituents and friends.
May his soul rest in peace.
